2015 Setting Wines achieves bottle world record

A one-off bottle of 2015 Setting Wines Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is now the world’s most valuable bottle of wine.

The lot realised an extraordinary $350,000 in the Emeril Lagasse Foundation’s recent Carnivale du Vin sale in New Orleans.

Shep Gordon wine

This unique bottle of wine was made by celebrated winemaker Jesse Katz

By contrast, the previous record was $232,692 – paid for a bottle of Chateaux Lafite-Rothschild 1869 in 2010.

So, aside from this being a charity auction, what’s so special about this lot?

Well it was made by winemaker Jesse Katz of Devil Proof Vineyards, who’s built a big following among California’s biggest stars.

He’s become known for crafting wines to order.

This unique bottle was for Shep Gordon, legendary manager of Alice Cooper, Blondie and Pink Floyd (among many others).

It was acquired by a cartel of Mississippi based wine collectors.

“Each year the funds raised during our annual signature events allow us to build upon and further expand the Foundation’s charitable work, ensuring that we continue to make a positive difference in the lives of young people across the country,” commented celebrity chef Lagasse.

“My wife Alden and I are grateful for the generosity of our donors, sponsors, participating chefs and the New Orleans community who continue to make it all possible.
