A circa 1950s elephant harness used in the Barnum & Bailey circus is among the most intriguing lots on offer in Potter & Potter’s upcoming circus, sideshow and wild west auction.
The harness fitted over the head of an elephant
It measures 16 inches in diameter and includes the original central medallion emblazoned with the company’s logo, which would have been visible on the animal’s forehead.
The lot is valued at $1,500-2,000.
Other items on offer include posters from the golden age of the circus, as well as a series of porcelain casts of legendary sideshow performer Tom Thumb's hands and feet.
