Bonhams’ Aston Martin auction achieves $6.5m

Bonhams’ Aston Martin auction last week brought in well over £5m ($6.5m).

The sale took place at the firm's Newport Pagnell factory on May 13.

A wealth of models from across the marque’s long and distinguished history featured.

Aston Martin DB5

The DB5 is the archetypal Aston Martin

A 1964 DB5 took the top spot, achieving £561,500 ($727,995).

The car is inextricably linked with the James Bond movies, a connection that has made it one of the most in-demand classic cars in the world.

As auctioneer James Knight said: "The saleroom was packed with a selective crowd of Aston connoisseurs who favoured vehicles with strong provenance and impressive credentials, with bids coming in from the UK, continental Europe, the Far East and America.”

There was also significant interest in newer models, with a 1989 Aston Martin V8 Vantage Volante 'X-Pack' selling for £387,900 ($502,919).

A 2000 Aston Martin Vantage Le Mans Coupe made £309,500 ($401,272).

Tim Schofield, Bonhams’ head of motoring, said: "Even in our 18th year at the Aston Martin Works, we are seeing a continued interest and enthusiasm for our sale.

"Bonhams prides itself on the breadth of its offerings at auction, and despite its single-marque status, this sale is no different.

"With lots ranging from barn-find projects to race-ready lightweight competition cars, this sale had something for all admirers of the Aston Martin and Lagonda marques.”
