Only Fools and Horses Reliant Regal offered at Silverstone

A 1968 Reliant Regal from the wildly popular British sitcom Only Fools and Horses will be offered without reserve in Silverstone Auctions’ November 11-12 sale.

For those outside the UK, the series ran between 1981 and 1991 and followed the fortunes of a wheeler dealing Peckham wide boy named Del Boy Trotter and his gormless brother Rodney.

Only Fools Reliant

Only Fools and Horses was voted Britain's best sitcom in 2004

The high water mark of the show was when Del Boy tried to lean on a bar and fell over.

The Reliant is decorated with the show’s iconic livery (bright yellow, with the words “Trotters Independent Trading Co. New York, Paris, Peckham”).

It’s one of several used in the show and can be seen in the episode “If they could only see us now”, where the Trooters drove it around Monaco.

It’s outfitted with a tiger print interior, a pair of furry dice and a smoke machine at the rear.

As the auction house puts it: “What's not to like Rodney?!”

There’s no estimate available, but another (from the classic Batman and Robin episode) realised £44,227 ($58,342) in 2007 – more than double its £20,000 ($26,383) estimate.

Will this one beat that result?

It’s entirely possible, as it’s difficult to overstate the enormous affection still felt for Only Fools and Horses in the UK.
