Audrey Hepburn’s personal collection to auction

Christie’s is to auction Audrey Hepburn’s personal collection in a dedicated sale this September.

It will include her personally annotated script for Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961), the movie with which she is most closely associated.

The studio had originally wanted Marilyn Monroe in the role of Holly Golightly (the archetypal Manic Pixie Dreamgirl) – but she pulled out on the advice of her acting coach.

Hepburn stepped in and delivered one of the best performances of her career.

The script is expected to sell for £60,000-80,000 ($75,990-101,320).

A letter from Truman Capote, author of Breakfast at Tiffany’s, congratulating her on the role is valued at £6,000-8,000 ($7,595-10,127).

Hepburn is regarded as a major fashion icon and a number of key pieces from her wardrobe will be offered, including a fawn Burberry trench coat she was often photographed wearing.

Adrian Hume-Sayer, Christie’s director of private collections, said: “Her name is one that instantly resonates; her appeal and relevance remain as strong today as they ever were.

“The sales will offer fans and collectors alike the opportunity to acquire unique personal objects which have never before been seen on the market and which will undoubtedly offer new insights into the remarkable life of a remarkable woman.”

The auction will take place in London on September 27.
