Judy Garland 'Oz' dress valued at $300,000

A dress worn by Judy Garland in early wardrobe tests on the set of the Wizard of Oz is valued at $200,000-300,000 ahead of a major auction of film memorabilia at Profiles in History in Los Angeles on December 21.

The tests took place on October 31, 1938 during George Cukor's brief time as director.

The dress was worn by Garland in the wardrobe tests for The Wizard of Oz

He played a major role in simplifying Dorothy's look, which had initially included a blonde wig and significantly more makeup, but was replaced by Victor Fleming before filming began.

The dress is similar in a number of ways to the screen-worn dress, and represents a breakthrough in the design of the costume.

It consists of a solid blue fabric over an integral off-white cotton blouse, which appeared in the final outfit.

The lot features a label on the interior reading "Judy Garland 4461" along with an MGM studios cleaning tag.

A screen worn example of the final dress sold at Julien's Auctions for $480,000 last year.

We have this signed photograph of Judy Garland.

A collection of costumes worn by Christopher Plummer and others on the set of the Sound of Music is estimated to make $150,000-250,000.

The lot includes the Captain Von Trapp and the five Von Trapp children's costumes worn in the Edelweiss and So Long, Farewell musical numbers, along with a number of others that feature throughout the film.

The Dick Van Dyke "Bert" jacket from the Jolly Holiday scene in Mary Poppins is valued at $80,000-100,000. It previously sold for $4,370 at Christie's in 1993.

We have this autograph from Julie Andrews, star of both The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins.
