Steve McQueen's Bullitt jacket up for auction at $800,000

The iconic tweed jacket donned by Steve McQueen in 1968's Bullitt will sell at Profiles in History on July 29.

The jacket is expected to see up to $800,000 when it crosses the block in California.

"McQueen wears this distinctive jacket while on the hitman's trail, during the iconic car chase, while riding with Jacqueline Bisset in her yellow Porsche Cabriolet in San Mateo, at the police station, in the coroner's office and the climactic chase on foot at San Francisco International Airport," explained the auction house.

Profiles in History has previously sold McQueen's racing suit from his hit film Le Mans, which made $984,000 in 2011.

McQueen is best known in the collecting world for his magnificent classic car collection, with the actor stating: "Racing is life. Anything before or after is just waiting."

In March 2013, his 1951 Chevrolet Styleline that featured the 1980 film The Hunter, sold for $84,000.
