Vintage Bollywood auction stars Trishul memorabilia at $49,000

As India's collectibles market continues to gain momentum, Conferro Auctions is holding the first London auction dedicated to vintage Bollywood memorabilia, to celebrate the centenary of Indian cinema.

Trishul Bollywood memorabilia
Trishul was one of the top grossing Bollywood films of 1978 and is still highly influential today

The auction takes place today (November 29), offering a selection of items that spans the history of Bollywood. Selling as top lot is a collection of memorabilia from the 1978 hit film Trishul, which is valued at 20,000-30,000 ($32,635-48,953).

As India's economy continues to expand and its middle-class find themselves with increasing disposable incomes, more and more are turning to collecting as both a hobby and an investment.

Indian art is now a big player in the schedule of all the major auction houses, with Christie's holding its first auction in Mumbai on December 19.

We have a magnificent item for sale from "Father of the Nation" Mahatma Gandhi - his personal bowl and cutlery, which were used by him at the famed Palm-Bun house in Juhu Beach, where he stayed while recovering from his detention at Aga Khan Palace.
