A 30 case lot of the esteemed Chateau Mouton-Rothschild saw the top bids at Acker's Hong Kong auction on December 15, selling for $229,470.

The sale makes Acker the highest selling wine auction house in Asia for the seventh year in a row

Spanning the 1982-2011 vintages of the celebrated Bordeaux claret, the lot led the sale to a total of $4.9m, securing Acker as the highest selling wine auction house in Asia.

Also featuring were rare original wooden cases of the 1988 Domaine de la Romanee-Conti (DRC) Romanee-Conti, the world's most sought after Burgundy, which made $165,729. A 1990 case of DRC's La Tache made $50,993.

Acker notes that Domaine de la Romanee-Conti had a strong weekend, figuring prominently in the top 10 sales. It is further confirmation of the brand's position as the most popular choice for collectors, with the previous favourite Lafite Rothschild now taking a back seat.

A case of 1961 Chateau Latour, a first growth Bordeaux, made $44,619, with a case of 2000 Chateau Petrus and a single magnum of 1971 Romanee Conti matching that price.

"The two top lots of the sale proved once more that when it comes to the most significant lots in the world, there is no place like Hong Kong," said Acker Merrall & Condit's CEO, John Kapon.

"The average sold lot value was nearly US$7,000! To achieve US$5 million in sales in basically 700 lots shows that the most discerning collectors continue to choose Acker Merrall for their most important wines."
