George Fullerton Fender Telecaster to see $70,000+ at Heritage

Heritage Auctions' October 25 Vintage Guitars and Musical Instruments auction will offer a 1951 Fender Telecaster hand-built by co-creator George Fullerton.

George Fullerton Fender Telecaster
The Telecaster is legendary among guitarists, as the first mass produced sold body electric guitar

The guitar is expected to sell for more than $70,000 when it crosses the block in Dallas, accompanied by supporting documentation including a letter from Fullerton that explains the guitar's history.

George William Fullerton (1923-2009) was a co-founder of G&L Musical Instruments, along with the legendary Leo Fender and Dale Hyatt. He is credited with the co-creation of the Telecaster, which was the first mass produced solid body electric guitar.

The guitar bears the serial number #0900 and is well documented among experts who, according to Heritage, "all concur that this is in fact an exceptionally fine example with one of a kind status". Unlike many early Telecasters, it is superb condition and has not been played much in its lifetime.

Adding to its incredible appeal is a 1998 signature from George Fullerton on the back of the body.

Also expected to fare well is a 1949 Bigsby/Gibson J200 sunburst acoustic guitar, which was the main guitar of western swing legend Dewey Groom - owner of the infamous Longhorn Ballroom.

The modified guitar bears all the marks of a long life on the road with Groom's outfit and is expected to realise more than $40,000, having come to auction directly from the estate of Groom himself.

Paul Fraser Collectibles has a fantastic selection of music memorabilia for sale - your chance to be part of the legacy of the music world's top stars.
