Intimate David Bowie photographs to auction

Intimate photographs of David Bowie from the early to mid-1970s will auction at Bonhams London on June 28.

Bowie signed them shortly before his death last year.

Bowie photos Bonhams

This photo was taken on the set of The Man Who Fell to Earth

One shows the star asleep on the Trans-Siberian railway while on the way to Moscow from Japan (he was terrified of flying), while another was taken on the set of Nicholas Roeg’s mind-bending sci-fi film The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976).

All the shots were taken by Geoff MacCormack, one of Bowie’s closest friends and a long-time member of his backing group.

MacCormack explained: “For me, these images...almost feel as if they belong in a family album.

"They capture the sense of two mates – one of whom just happened to have become a rock star – having the time of their lives.”

The photographs will be sold separately, with each valued at around £2,000-3,000 ($2,599-3,899).

Bowie’s death last year has increased demand for his memorabilia, as fans look to secure a memento.

Autographs are particularly rare, as Bowie avoided the limelight in his later years.

This could easily push the hammer price of these images beyond their valuations.
