Paul Kossoff's Les Paul guitar to highlight music memorabilia sale

Free guitarist Paul Kossoff's 1959 Gibson Les Paul is to cross the block at Bonhams on December 10.

There is no estimate available at present, although Kossoff's influential musicianship should ensure strong interest.

Natalie Downing, Bonhams' entertainment memorabilia specialist, said: "Kossoff is one of the generation of rock stars who lost their life to the excesses of the industry…

"Musical instruments with celebrity provenance can often reach a higher premium at auction, bolstered by fans and musicians keen to take home instruments that bore witness to some of rock and roll's greatest moments."

Earlier this year a guitar signed by the surviving members of the Grateful Dead sold for $526,000 at their farewell concert.

We have this original sketch by Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood for sale.
