The Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK auction house sold the single-owner collection for more than £10,000 ($15,351). It contained almost 50 rare items relating to the band.

The collection was compiled by Mark Wilson, a fan from Gateshead, who began collecting in 1976 - the year the band were signed to EMI and a year before they released Never Mind the Bollocks.

"Almost every room in our house was crammed with various bits and pieces such as posters and record sleeves, but having had many years of enjoyment, it's now time to pass the collection on and let someone else benefit," commented  Wilson.

Auctioneer Fred Wyrley-Birch said: "There is a real surge in interest in items from that era and many pieces similar to those going under the hammer are currently on show as part of the 'Chaos to Couture' exhibition at the prestigious Metropolitan Museum in New York."

Highlights of the sale included a selection of clothing worn by the band from Malcolm McLaren and Vivianne Westwood's Seditionaries label, epitomising the aesthetic for which the band became known.

Also included were posters, prints, records and autographed items, including Sid Vicious' signature. Many of the items were previously on loan to Newcastle's Discovery Museum as a key feature in the Punk/76 exhibition.
