Princess Diana Escada tie to auction for $4,500?

Princess Diana's Escada silk tie is to auction at Reeman Dansie Auctioneers on June 18.

The tie, which is patterned with small golden elephants, is estimated to be worth £2,000-3,000 ($3,128-4,691).

Diana teamed the tie with a matching elephant-embellished pant suit during a trip to see her newborn nephew

Diana donned the Escada elephant tie for a visit to Saint Mary's Hospital in 1994 - a trip to see her newborn nephew, Louis. The princess teamed the tie with a matching Escada trouser suit, also decorated with gold elephants.

After the outing, Diana sent the silk tie to the daughters of a friend. Her intention was for their father to wear the tie to a forthcoming job interview; she writes in a note that accompanies the tie that she hopes he will look "very smart" in it.

The tie is offered along with its original gold gift wrapping, red ribbon, and the handwritten, signed note which Diana begins, "Dear Ladies", and signs off, "Lots of love from Diana".

Auctioneer James Grinter comments: "It is a wonderful opportunity to own an original item which was actually worn by Princess Diana.

"After she visited Earl Spenser's new born son at Saint Mary's, she sent the elephant tie to a friend's daughters".

In March 2013, a number of the princess' dresses went under the hammer at Kerry Taylor Auctions.

The top performing gown, the black Victor Edelstein dress Diana wore while dancing with John Travolta at the White House, sold for £240,000 ($362,563).
