RR Auction will sell a signed photo of the Apollo 1 crew in an online sale that closes on February 8.
The Apollo 1 crew were killed in a fire during testing on January 27, 1967
Such signed pieces are extremely rare as the crew (Virgil "Gus" Grissom, Edward H White and Roger B. Chaffee) were killed in a cabin fire during a test on the command module on January 27, 1967.
The terrible tragedy led to greater emphasis on safety in later designs.
The next manned flight, Apollo 7 in 1968, took off and landed without incident.
The photo is expected to make in excess of $8,000.
