Earliest known school cricket photograph realises £5,500

The earliest known photograph of a school cricket match has sold for £5,400 ($8,045).

It was among the top lots of an April 17 sale at Dominic Winter Auctioneers in Cirencester, UK and shows a match held at Eton College in the 1860s.

Auctioneer Chris Albury told the Gloucestershire Echo: "We are ecstatic about the price for the cricket photograph and even more so the owner. We thought it was an important item and in lovely condition and we believe it is going to a very good home in this country.

"It's not only one of the earliest photographs of any cricket match known but quite likely the earliest of a school cricket match."
