Henry Cooper boxing belts sell for $19,000 each at Bonhams

Bonhams' Sports Memorabilia auction in Chester, UK today (February 20) has seen the sale of two Henry Cooper British heavyweight championship belts.

Henry Cooper Boxing belts to auction for $24,000 apiece?
The belts feature an enamel portrait of Lord Lonsdale, who donated the original Lonsdale belts to the sport

The pair of 1960s silver-gilt Lonsdale belts, won by the much loved "gentleman of the ring", were sold for £12,500 ($19,133) each.

Bonhams previously sold Cooper's 1961 belt for £49,250 ($75,640) in May 2012, showing the readiness of the market for the memorabilia of this great personality, who died in 2011.

Paul Fraser Collectibles is currently offering a superb signed photograph of James J Jeffries, aka The Boilermaker, a former world heavyweight champion. We also have a superb Muhammad Ali-signed photograph of his meeting with the Beatles.
