Michael Jordan’s Converse sneakers make $190,000

The Converse sneakers Michael Jordan wore in the 1984 Olympic basketball final have sold for a record $190,372.

The lot almost doubled the previous record for a pair of game worn shoes, set at $104,765 in 2013 for the Nikes he wore during his legendary 1997 “flu game”.

Jordan wore these sneakers during the 1984 Olympic Games

Jordan was on top form during the 1984 tournament, scoring an average of 17.1 point per game. During the final against Spain, he scored 20.

While Jordan will forever be associated with Nike, that highly lucrative partnership was signed a couple of weeks after the final.

He turned pro in October, 1984.

These Converses are actually the last non-Nike shoes Jordan wore on a basketball court.

After the game he signed each of the shoes and handed them to a ball boy, who has treasured them ever since.

The auction house comments: “These historic sneakers are the last pair Jordan wore in competition as an amateur and represent perhaps his crowning athletic achievement before turning professional and starting his NBA legacy with the Chicago Bulls.”

Jordan is considered the greatest basketball player of all time and demand for his memorabilia is growing.
