Michael Jordan's Bulls jersey sets new auction record

The last jersey worn by Michael Jordan during his last season with the Chicago Bulls in 1998 has sold for a record $173,240.

The lot starred in a sale of sports memorabilia at Goldin Auctions on November 15.

It beat the previous record for a piece of Jordan memorabilia, set at $104,765 for the shoes he wore in his legendary "flu game" in 1997.

Auction house founder Ken Goldin told ESPN: "No one who has been out of the game fewer than fifteen years has had items sell for these kinds of prices.

"Michael Jordan is the collectible equivalent of Babe Ruth."
