Bower dwarf clock auctions with 3,063% increase in Pennsylvania

A dwarf clock, designed by Henry Bower circa 1800-1825, auctioned on January 1 in Pennsylvania with a whopping 3062.5% increase on its $1,000 estimate.

Standing only 50 inches tall, the clock was bought by an antiques dealer and collector for $31,625.

The clock garnered a great deal of attention before the sale, with experts lining up to inspect it during the preview

Following the sale, auctioneer Cindy Stephenson commented: "You can tell a lot by what goes on during the preview.

"All of the top clock people were here looking at it. One expert spent half an hour inspecting it."

A clue to the clock's inherent worth could be found written on its casement: "Feste Swome" is Pennsylvania German for "Faulkner Stamp" - denoting the location in the Douglas Township where Henry Bower designed and manufactured his clocks.
