Napoleon's chairs to auction for $14,000?

A set of six circa 1810 chairs from Napoleon's Chateau de Fontainebleau are to auction at Christie's London on May 1. The white-painted, parcel-gilt chairs carry a £6,000 ($9,189) to £9,000 ($13,785) valuation.

Napoleon's chairs auction
The parcel-gilt chairs were upholstered in blue silk at the request of Emperor Napoleon

Attributed to French furniture designer Pierre-Antione Bellange, the chairs bear clear inventory marks from Chateau de Fontainebleau and are believed to have been commissioned by Napoleon himself, during his extensive restoration of the palatial property.

Here at Paul Fraser Collectibles, we too have a range of antique furniture in stock, including this exquisite John Linnell-made George III cabinet.
