Nike Mags smash trainer world record

A pair of limited edition Nike Mags has smashed the world record for a pair of trainers.

The self-lacing shoes, inspired by Marty McFly in Back to the Future II (1989), sold for $200,000 in New York on November 12, reports Sneaker News.

Nike Mags
A consumer version comes out in the next two years

They auctioned at a fundraising event for the Michael J Fox foundation, established by the Back to the Future star to find a cure for Parkinson's Disease.

The auction figure almost double the previous $104,000 record for a pair - set in October at Dragon 8 auction house in Hong Kong.

They are the last pair to be sold of the 89 first generation Mags produced by Nike.

The US firm has been releasing the Mags throughout the year, with a consumer model due out by 2018.
