A set of South East Asian hardwood furniture was the star of the show at Bonhams' sale of Period Design pieces in Knightsbridge, London, on Tuesday July 5.
The exquisitely designed objects, comprising of two chairs and an octagonal occasional table, sold for an impressive price of £6,960 ($11,214). The chairs depict an array of different imagery, with dragons, oriental figures and flowers featuring heavily.

The matching table with its marble top, which stands almost as tall as the chairs, is also intricately carved and displays more natural elements, like beasts, fruit and foliage, almost in contrast to the more human features of the chairs.
Of a more simple nature, but equally as outstanding, was the lot which reached the second highest price, the George III mahogany secretaire bookcase, which stacked up £5,400 ($8,698). The wonderful piece would look grand in any setting, with its imposing nature and rich colouring.
With a large array of features, including three shelves, nine drawers and five pigeon holes, it would clearly have been a piece made with a lot of skill, hence the competitive price.
Also illuminating the sale as a beacon of quality was this Val Saint Lambert cut glass two tier chandelier, which shone brightly as it brought in a price of £5,040 ($8,114).

The wonderfully classic, ornate piece resembles something out of a Royal palace, with its tiered effect and upward scrolling arms.
Furniture of this level of quality and craftsmanship will always set the bar high and make a strong investment, and as recent sales have shown, the market at the moment is as robust as ever.
