Vampire killing kit among highlights at Don Presley Auction

A vampire killing kit in a book-shaped case is among the top lots at Don Presley Auction in Santa Ana, California with a valuation of $8,000-12,000.

Allegedly, nervous Westerners would buy the kits before travelling to eastern Europe in the late 19th century. Their popularity is thought to have spiked after the publication of Bram Stoker's Dracula in 1897.

It's unknown whether the vampire kit was ever used for its intended purpose

In reality, they were likely created as novelty items on the back of the book's success. The present lot contains everything you need to defeat the undead, including a flintlock pistol, a stake and a garlic press.

The auction takes place on October 5.

For those vampires among you we have this original blood painting by Pete Doherty.
