$93,500 Dianoor diamond ring shines at Watches, Jewellery and Silver sale

This week Dreweatts are holding a substantial sale of Jewellery, Watches, Silver & Objects of Vertu at their Newbury auction house with 472 lots going under the hammer.

Collectors of fine timepieces and antiques should find plenty to keep them interested with many wristwatches and pocket watches for ladies and men alike going under the hammer, including several offerings from Rolex.

The most covetable piece from that section is a Franck Muller, Long Island Master Calender Moon wristwatch. This is a large 18 carat gold gentleman's wristwatch, issue number 52, with a two piece case with four push pieces on the sides.

The grey textured dial displays luminous Arabic numerals, inner date dial, luminous spade hands, and three apertures for day, date and moon phase, the case is 5.5cm across including lugs and functions utilising the 21 jewel Franck Muller movement. It is expected to sell for £8,000-12,000 (up to $18,700)

Collectors of fine silver will be intrigued by the 'Auchentorlie Spoon', an extremely rare and important mid 17th century Scottish silver slip-top spoon by Alexander Scott apparently made for the deacon Andrew Burrell.

The back of the spoon's bowl is inscribed 'M' over 'AA' and 'M' over 'MA' and these have been interpreted as suggesting that it probably entered into the family through a marriage. It is listed at £15,000 - £20,000 ($31,200).

It is collectors of fine jewellery who have the most to look forward to, however, with a number of investment-grade pieces including several from Dianoor.

Dianoor is in administration, and so the pieces are being sold off as part of a liquidation process. This could offer a good opportunity as there are unlikely to be challenging reserves set on the lots.

The expected top lot is a fancy yellow diamond single stone ring by the company, with the cushion-shaped yellow diamond stated to weigh 14.08 carats. It is claw set above a mount and shoulders pave, set throughout with brilliant cut diamonds, which weigh approximately 1.40 carats total.

Finger size M, and offered for sale with a Gemological Institute of America certificate noting the colour as Natural Fancy Yellow. It is estimated at £40,000-60,000 (up to $93,500). Dreweatts' sale takes place in Newbury and online from December 1-2.
