Barbara Taylor Bradford's diamond ring to highlight December 5 auction

A 14.02 carat cushion-shaped diamond single-stone ring will highlight the sale of a collection of 40 lots of jewellery from the author Barbara Taylor Bradford at Bonhams London on December 5.

The ring, which carries an estimate of $500,000-700,000, was made by David Morris of London.

Other highlights include an antique sapphire and diamond brooch valued at $100,000-150,000 and an 18.37 carat sapphire ring of Burmese origin valued at $150,000-200,000.

Barbara Taylor Bradford is a highly successful British author who has sold 88m books in over 40 different languages. Her first book, 1979's A Woman of Substance, is consistently ranked as one of the 10 biggest selling novels of all time, with over 32m copies sold worldwide.

Matthew Girling, Bonhams' CEO, commented: "We are delighted and honoured to be selling such a fabulous collection from this distinguished author known internationally for her outstanding contribution to literature. For anyone who loves her work, here is a once in a lifetime opportunity to buy something intensely personal, owned and loved by Barbara Taylor Bradford."

Taylor Bradford commented: "I took my jewellery out of the safe and studied every item and decided I would auction a number of pieces with Bonhams.

"I thought how silly it was to have jewels in a safe that I only wear occasionally. Beautiful things need to be on display and admired. I want someone else to own and wear these pieces I have cherished and enjoyed. I want the jewellery to live again."
