As we've reported, Christie's will be hosting a major jewellery sale next week with some extremely valuable and important pieces on display. The sale will include an iconic pair of ear pendants by Joel Rosenthal, the celebrated contemporary designer who goes by the moniker of JAR.
The earrings, estimated at $300,000-500,000, were cut and designed for the award-winning actress Ellen Barkin and featured in her landmark jewelry collection sale, also held at Christie's in October 2006.
However, the JAR ear pendants are not leading the sale.
Three of the other pieces of designers jewellery going under the hammer are listed at much higher prices, such as a holly wreath, composed of two graduated rows of circular, pear and marquise-cut diamond clusters, mounted in platinum, by Harry Winston.

Created in 1962, the 16½ in necklace bears a weight of 152.35 carats in total, and is estimated at $800,000-$1,200,000.
Also vying for attention will be an impressive diamond ring, by Graff, set with a cut-cornered rectangular-cut diamond, weighing approximately 12.21 carats, the shoulders set with tapered baguette-cut diamonds, mounted in platinum.
The ring, which is the 'property of a lady' is accompanied by a report dated 17 February 2010 from the Gemological Institute of America stating that the diamond is D color, VS1 clarity. In addition, there is a working diagram indicating that the clarity may be potentially internally flawless.
Weighing 12.21 carats, the fine gem is expected to bring $900,000-1,200,000 in the sale.
But it's another ring, a separate offering from the influence of the King of Diamonds, Harry Winston which is expected to take top lot status.
It is set with a pear-shaped diamond which weighs approximately 17.86 carats, and flanked on either side by a modified triangular-cut diamond, weighing approximately 1.64 and 1.63 carats, mounted in platinum, and contained in a Harry Winston black suede box.
It comes with another report from the Gemological Institute of America, dated 25 June 2010, stating that the pear-shaped diamond is D color, VS1 clarity.
In addition, the pear-shaped diamond has been determined to be a Type IIa diamond. Type IIa diamonds are the most chemically pure type of diamond and often have exceptional optical transparency.
The ring, pictured top right, is expected to sell for $1,500,000-2,000,000 at Christie's New York auction on October 20.
