James Dean's pocket watch may bring $10,000 to Antiquorum

A pocket watch that was among James Dean's most prized possessions is being offered on June 22 in Hong Kong, as part of Antiquorum's latest auction.

The pocket watch wore an alternative cover to hide James Dean's initials on screen

Valued at $5,000-10,000, the Elgin watch was bought by Dean in 1951, while he was still struggling to find his feet as an actor.

It then became one of his most treasured items, which he insisted on wearing in his films, such as East of Eden.

To hide his initials, "J.D", which are engraved on the cover, the watch was given an alternative cover for its film appearances.

Following his success as an actor, it was then given by Dean to Tillie Starriet, the Warner Bros staffer whom he called "Mom".

Paul Fraser Collectibles has another fascinating item from Dean's early days - his signed yearbook page. A charming piece that serves as testament to his popularity from an early age, a caption beneath his name reads, "Our regular basketball guy, and when you're around him - time will fly".
