Margaret Steigele estate sale will feature $80,000 bracelet

Bonhams will offer jewellery from the estate of Margaret Steigele in its October 17 sale in New York, including an emerald and diamond Cartier bracelet with an estimate of $60,000-80,000. The bracelet dates to circa 1935-1940 and is mounted on platinum.

Cartier is one of the most prestigious jewellers and traditionally holds its value well at auction due to its reputation for quality. A bracelet owned by Wallis Simpson, wife of Edward VIII, sold for £4.5m ($7m) at a 2010 auction - a record for the brand.

A William Goldberg-designed diamond bracelet with a valuation of $40,000-60,000, and a flower-shaped emerald and diamond brooch by Van Cleef, with an identical estimate, are also featured.

Jewellery by Van Cleef is in hot demand, with an exquisite sapphire ring hammering for a record £979,000 ($1.5m) at Sotheby's London in 2012.

A necklace by Goldberg also performed well at Christie's New York jewellery sale in April of this year, achieving an impressive $1.8m.

Margaret Steigele was a noted jewellery collector and the daughter of Arthur C Neilson, the creator of the television ratings system that is still in use to this day. The auction will feature a selection of 189 pieces from her estate.
