Patek Philippe Nautilus Chronograph achieves $35,000 in US auction

A superb Patek Philippe Nautilus Chronograph, complete with its original stylus and in unworn condition, has sold well in a US watch auction.

Patek Philippe Nautilus Chronograph
A rare boxed example of a highly sought-after watch

The stainless steel watch was first released by Patek Philippe in 2010 and usually retails for around $30,000-35,000 - matching the $35,000 it achieved at auction on August 11. A highly sought-after watch, it was sold along with the original Patek Philippe box, warranty papers and manual.

One of the most reliable brands for investment, the current world record for a Patek Philippe stands at $5.6m after a unique example from 1944 sold at Christie's in 2010. Vintage watches from Patek Philippe sell for much greater prices than their modern counterparts and regularly feature as the top lot in auctions.

Following the Nautilus was a magnificent 18k yellow gold Breguet Marine Chronograph, which sold comfortably within its $30,000-32,500 estimate at $31,000. The watch is unusual in its matching yellow gold bracelet, which is an upgrade from the usual black rubber strap found on the marine chronograph wristwatches. The final price provided great value for collectors, with this rare variety normally retailing for around $51,000 outside of auction.

A rare appearance from Ulysse Nardin also featured in the sale, with a spectacular white gold Sonata watch coming in at the low-end of its estimate at $26,000. Boasting dual time, big date, count down and alarm functions, the watch is typical of Ulysse Nardin's unconventional offerings, with a stripped down dial and curved hands that complement its musical theme.

Paul Fraser Collectibles has a stunning Longines Men's Olympic Series watch currently available - a classic design from the luxury Swiss brand.
