Putin’s Patek Philippe ref 5208 sold at Antiquorum

A Patek Philippe ref 5208 wristwatch believed to have been bought as a gift for Russian premiere Vladimir Putin has sold at Antiquorum.

Only a small number of these watches exist.

Ref 2508 is among Patek Philippe's most exclusive watches

They are only offered to serious collectors and cost around $1m new.

Apparently the Kremlin has said Mr Putin never received the watch, although it was originally bought in his name in an upmarket store in London in 2015.

Its murky origins didn’t affect the result.

The watch made $1.2m in the July 19 auction in Monaco.
