Rolex Cosmograph Daytona auctions for $13,000 through Fellows

An 18k gold Rolex Cosmograph Daytona has seen the highest bids in Fellows' January 9 auction in Birmingham, UK.

Rolex Cosmograph Daytona
The Daytona celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2013, with the record set by a Paul Newman model at $1m

The watch is a fine 1998 example of the Daytona, which is among Rolex's most popular lines and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2013, having first appeared in 1963. The present example sold for £7,800 ($12,836), making an 11.4% increase on its £5,000-7,000 estimate.

The second highest bids of the sale were seen for an 18k gold lady's Piaget Polo bracelet watch, which made £5,000 ($8,228).

The sale confirms that some of the most iconic brands and lines can be bought at auction on a modest budget, though the very finest examples sell for much more. The record for a Rolex Daytona "Paul Newman" model was set at Christie's in November at $1m.

Paul Fraser Collectibles has a wonderful Longines Olympic series men's watch for sale, the epitome of simple elegance.
