Rolex Daytona Paul Newman may see $533,000 with Antiquorum

With this year marking the 50th anniversary of the Rolex's landmark Daytona 'Paul Newman', Antiquorum will offer a spectacular example as part of its May 12 auction in Geneva.

The watch bears a very low serial number with a prototype lemon yellow dial

The watch is expected to bring $320,000-533,000, with its low serial number set to guarantee strong interest come sale day.

Almost a prototype, the Daytona boasts unique features, such as white square markers in the sub-counters and the dial created in a unique lemon yellow colouration.

The Rolex Daytona 'Paul Newman' was created to honour the late Daytona 500 racing driver Paul Newman, as well as the event itself. A renowned collectors piece, this year marks half a century of one of Rolex's most famous and sought after lines.

A special Platinum Cosmograph edition of the Daytona was released at this year's Baselworld event in Switzerland, which finished on May 2.

However, the top lot at Antiquorum is the Patek Philippe pink gold Sky Moon Tourbillon, a unique piece with a special order case.

Estimated at $1m-1.6m, the watch is oversized, featuring a nocturnal sky chart of the Northern Hemisphere, moon phases and lunar orbit, along with the time of the meridian passages of Sirius and the Moon, solar mean and sidereal time indicators.

Another example of the Sky Moon Tourbillon sold for $1.35m at Sotheby's in October 2012.
