See the new $80k Tag Heuer watch

The first platinum watch by Tag Heuer is set to cause a stir among watch collectors.

Limited to just 150 watches, the 170g platinum Monaco V4 boasts a unique look, modern styling and promises to be fun to use.

Each piece is priced at $80,000, with the first set to be auctioned off for charity.

The watch is very Tag Heuer in character, modified to a "skeletonised" style. It also boasts two unique features.

Firstly, the watch movement uses a series of transmission belts instead of pinions. They are the smallest belts made anywhere, with thin steel wire in them for strength.

Secondly, the use of a liner weight for the automatic movement, designed to resemble a piston in an engine as the liner weight moves up and down to power the watch's movement.

The watch also uses mini ball bearings instead of "rubies" that are commonly used in watches for low friction between gears and palettes. These, according to Tag Heuer, use even less friction than the commonly used synthetic rubies.

The name "V4" refers to four barrels that are seen in the rear of the watch. It boasts a 52 hours power reserve.
