Noble Numismatics has concluded their auction of coins, banknotes, medals and jewellery in Melbourne.
Whilst most of the most valuable lots were from the first three categories, there were some arresting pieces for a collector of watches and jewellery - at entry level, but suitable for those with impeccable taste.
First an Omega gold Gent's wristwatch brought a lot of interest early in the afternoon.
The constellation model chronometer has a flat gold dial, polished gold hands including a seconds hand and subdials for day and date.

With the hours represented by Roman numerals on bezel, reverse with traditional gold observatorium design, and in overall good/fine condition, the piece brought A$2,900 (US$2,610).
The top lot amongst the watches was a Cartier Ladies wristwatch (santos de Cartier CO519 ) in a very classical, elegant style.
The 18ct yellow gold watch and bracelet with a total weight of 81.8g is set with sixty eight (68) diamonds in bezel, with an attractive blue sapphire set winder, white dial with black Roman numerals and its original Cartier box. In extremely fine condition, it achieved A$7,000 (US$6,300).
Perhaps even more fascinating however was a pendant depicting King Rama V of Siam. (Also known as Chulalongkorn the Great, he is regarded as one of the country's most successful monarchs for preventing Siam from becoming a Western colony).

The gold piece, with fittings to allow it to be worn on a necklace or as a brooch features a twenty point diamond and dozens of two and three point diamonds over the whole design, all surrounding a central coloured image of Rama V.
With no noticeable flaws, it sold for A$2,800 (US$2,520) - but surely it will one day sell for more as such a beautiful piece associated with a celebrated leader; the buyer has made a strong investment.
