Tiffany & Co sapphire ring achieves $118,750 at Heritage Auction

A Tiffany & Co diamond and platinum ring featuring an 8.94 carat sapphire was the top lot at Heritage Auctions inaugural Beverly Hills Luxury Accessories event on September 23, achieving $118,750.

The auction achieved total sales of over $50m.

Hermes bags were the most popular items at the auction however, with a Hermes matte bougainvillea porosus crocodile Birkin with palladium hardware achieving $106,250.

Also featured were a shiny blue electric porosus crocodile Birkin bag with palladium hardware which made $87,500 and a special order horseshoe 35cm shiny blue electric & indigo porosus crocodile Birkin bag with gold hardware that sold for $81,250

Matt Rubinger, director of luxury accessories at Heritage, commented: "Our auction marked Heritage's grand Beverly Hills luxury debut and it certainly surpassed our expectations,

"Judging by the results, it's clear our clients were pleased as well over the opportunity to own these rare bags now rather than waiting for years through traditional outlets."

In 2011, Heritage sold an Exceptional Collection shiny rouge porosus crocodile 30cm Birkin bag with solid 18K white gold & diamond hardware for $170,000 - a record price for a Hermes bag.

As a result of this most recent auction, Heritage has been responsible for the sale of the top 10 most expensive Hermes Birkins.

Hermes is one of the world's most prestigious luxury manufacturers, first opening in Paris as a luxury harness workshop in 1837.

The first handbags were introduced in 1922, after the company was granted the exclusive right to use the newly invented zipper in France.
