The pink diamond headlined the Hong Kong sale

Quek Chin Yeow, Sotheby's deputy chairman of international jewellery business in Asia, commented prior to the sale: "This colour is one of the most beautiful and concentrated shades of pink in diamonds that I have seen.

"Together with its exceptional clarity, it is not surprising that it would command the highest per-carat pre-sale estimate for any pink diamond to date."

The Pink Dream holds the record for the most valuable pink diamond ever sold at auction, achieving $83.1m at Sotheby's New York in 2013.
