1911 Moet & Chandon to see $63,000 at Christie's auction?

Champagne will make a rare appearance as an auction's top lot, when six bottles of 1911 Moet & Chandon star at Christie's Fine and Rare Wines auction in London on February 21.

Moet & Chandon Champagne
The 1911 vintage was the best year for champagne between 1874 and 1921

The bottles will be sold with a £30,000-40,000 ($47,280-$63,040) estimate. According to Christie's Michael Broadbent, writing in his book Vintage Wine, 1911 is the best year for champagne between 1874 and 1921.

Christie's can expect strong results in its latest wine sale, after the Liv-ex Fine Wine 50 Index rose 3.5% in January, the largest monthly gain seen for two years. Sign up to Paul Fraser Collectibles' free weekly newsletter for the results of this sale and exclusive wine investment advice.
