Comte de Vogue Musigny tops Acker auction at $21,000

A vertical lot of 19 bottles of Vieilles Vignes Comte de Vogue Musigny has sold at the top of Acker Merrall & Condit's October 5 auction.

Chambolle Musigny
Domaine Comte Georges de Vogue is situated in the Chambolle-Musigny commune

The lot, featuring bottles dating to as far back as 1949, sold for $20,910, taking the lead over esteemed wines such as Bordeaux's Petrus 2005 or the champion Burgundy La Tache 1988.

The vertical offering spanned 1949 to 2004, and contained some of the producer's four most valuable vintages: 1966, 1969, 1971 and 1972.

Domaine Comte Georges de Vogue is situated in one of the finest Burgundy communes, Chambolle-Musigny, and is renowned for its rich and intense wines, produced using Pinot Noir as the main grape variety.

The second highest bids of the auction were seen by a case of Domaine de La Romanee Conti's La Tache 1988, which sold for $19,680 alongside a half-case of the illustrious Bordeaux Chateau Petrus 2005, which realised an identical sum.

A further 12 bottle case of Petrus also appeared among the auction's top sellers, making $15,990.

Following was a case of 1982 Chateau Mouton-Rothschild, a fine Paulliac, which sold for $14,760. This price was matched by a case of Roussau Chambertin 1988.

The wine market got off to a strong start in 2013, following a poor showing in 2012, but has seen declines since March, according to the Liv-ex Fine Wine 50 Index.
