Fine wines to keep you warm: Morrell & Company offer rare vintages for sale

As the first cooling wisps of autumn air start swirling about we are reminded of what the changing of the seasons will bring in the upcoming months.

With the changing of the leaves comes a changing of the flavours found on the family table. Richer, bolder flavours take the place of the light refreshment that summer demands. Luckily Morrell and Company's September 21, 2011 auction has plenty of wonderful offerings to meet the chilling weather head on.

They start things off with Bordeaux, and plenty of it, with over a century of First Growths, each of which is well represented throughout the sale. Firstly there are 21 vintages of Lafite, including 6 lots each of the legendary 1959, 1961, and 1982, 10 lots of 1986, and original cases of the 1990 and 1996 along with others.

There are also 14 vintages of Haut-Brion with 1959, 1989 and 2000 included. We have a veritable ocean of Latour, starting with the 1929 and spanning 23 vintages up to 2002, with favourites such as the 1961, 1982 and 2000 all available.

If anything can match the sheer amount of great Latour in the sale it would be Mouton, including amongst others the immortal 1959, 1961, 1982, 1986 and 2000 vintages.

Margaux rounds out the top five, with 1900, 1928, 1986, 1990, 1996 and 2000 all on hand. Whilst not a First Growth, Château Pétrus is available in eight vintages including the 1982.

Other great regions of France are also on offer. Domaine de la Romanée-Conti leads the way (as it usually does) with a bottle of the 1971 Romanée-Conti, 1966 La Tache and 1985 La Tâche available. The whites of Ramonet, Dauvissat, Raveneau and Comtes Lafon all make an appearance as well.

From Champagne there are 11 vintages of Dom Pérignon, 1985 Krug, and 1990 Cristal to help with any celebration.

The Hermitage La Chapelle from Jaboulet and Sauternes of Château d'Yquem are both fine concessions to the cooler temperatures outside.

Perhaps most exciting of all, the company is offering  the cellar of Morton Swinsky. Mr. Swinsky was a towering figure in the world of Broadway; winning an incredible six Tony awards and an Emmy along with the many nominations his productions earned.

His legacy consists of a monumental body of work known around the world, his notable successes as a leader in Wall Street, and most importantly his reputation as a humble and genuine person to all who knew him.

He was certainly more respected than the subjects for one of Morrell's previous auctions: Bernie Madoff.
