Fux restaurant sells wine at Sotheby’s Hong Kong

Renowned Austrian restaurant Fux is selling off a selection of wines from its enviably stocked cellars at Sotheby’s Hong Kong.

Opened in 1998, Fux has been in the vanguard of Austria’s top restaurants ever since – pairing its groundbreaking food with a serious wine list.

 Romanee Conti wine

The sale includes bottles of classic DRC burgundies

Some of the highlights of the September 30 sale will include a magnum (1.5 litres) of 2004 DRC Romanee-Conti, valued at $20,000-28,000.

There’s also a jeroboam (three litres) of 2007 DRC Romanee-St-Vivant, valued at $3,600-5,000.

Six bottles of the 1998 from Italian winemaker Masseto will also feature, with an estimate of $3,300-4,800.

This is only the second wine sale Sotheby’s has undertaken for a restaurant.

As Jamie Ritchie, head of wine at Sotheby’s, explains: “We have offered more than 50 single owner sales from private collectors, but so far only one series from a restaurant: the very successful sales of The el Bulli Cellar in 2013…

“However, there is an important difference between these two sales; while el Bulli had closed its restaurant business and funds from the auction went to Ferran Adria’s el Bulli Foundation, the Fux Restaurant continues to thrive – this sale represents only a modest thinning out of the collection in order to make room in the Fux cellar for newer vintages.”
