Is this the world's greatest burgundy collection ever auctioned?

One of the world's greatest collections of rare burgundies, amassed from the cellar of New York financier Don Stott, is to auction at Sotheby's New York on May 8-9.

A case of Bonnes Mares Domaine Georges Roumier 1971 will provide the headline lot, with a $32,500-42,500 estimate.

Serena Sutcliffe MW, international head of Sotheby's wine department, commented: "The Don Stott cellar is an unrivalled collection of wine, created by someone with a passion that will resonate with all true wine lovers round the world.

"This has to be among the most desirable cellars amassed by anyone, anywhere, born from a devotion to wine that has lasted from the early 1960s."
