Limited Macallan 1824 is globally released

The travel-exclusive Macallan 1824 Limited Release will be rolled out globally next month, after being sold exclusively at Singapore Changi Airport throughout October.

The previous three Macallan 1824 Collection whiskies have been available in all key travel retail outlets in the Americas, Europe and Asia - but not this one.

Only 1,824 examples of the 1824 Limited Release have been produced. Each is displayed in a handcrafted crystal decanter, crafted by a Scottish silversmith.

The whisky is drawn from four of the finest and rarest European Sherry oak casts. It was released on October 1, after which Changi Airport was given exclusivity of the product until November.

The 1824 Limited Release single malt will be available for around $2,200 at Duty Free shops. The 1824 refers not to its year, but to its 1,824 limited status.

"Antique amber. The darkest and most decadent of the four [1824s]," is how John Hansell of the malt advocate describes the Limited Edition.

"Quite viscous and soothing, with well-layered notes of apple pie, marmalade, and maple syrup balanced by dried fruits, ginger, polished leather, tobacco and resinous oak

"One to sip and savour very slowly."

According to Mr Hansell, the 1824 Limited Edition is "much better" than the Macallan 55 year-old in the Lalique Decanter. Which this reputation, it is likely to be snatched-up very quickly by collectors.
