Macallan vertical whisky collection achieves $87,000

A vertical collection of Macallan whiskies has achieved $86,763 in an online-only sale hosted by Bonhams Hong Kong.

Demand for high-end scotch is growing in Asia, where it is seen as a status symbol. Macallan is right at the top of the market.

A single bottle of Macallan 1945 achieved $9,465.

It’s an extremely rare bottling, partly due to its age but also the fact it was the last run to be produced during the second world war (when rationing was still in effect).
