Macallan's new $15k whisky

The famed Speyside distillery is set to release a Scotch worth $15,000.

The Macallan 57 Lalique "Finest Cut" contains an exceptionally rare 57 year-old malt whisky in a 400 worldwide limited edition decanter.

Only 72 of the 400 decanters will be available in the US.

It will be available by special order beginning in October, reports Luxist.

This precious bottling comes not long after the recent record breaking $19,000 sale of one of the Macallan's 50th anniversary bottles, at auction in Scotland.

"In homage to the beauty of Lalique's Finest Cut decanter, we chose a particularly rare 57 years old Macallan single malt whisky," said David Cox, Director of Fine & Rare Whiskies for The Macallan, according to Luxist.

"It is the second oldest The Macallan whisky ever released, only surpassed in age by the legendary 1926, a 60

year-old bottled in 1986."

The secrets behind a $15k whisky

The Finest Cut decanters are designed exclusively for Macallan by the legendary French crystal house Lalique.

Its design is inspired by the fraction of new make whisky that was poured into cask for maturation when producing the Macallan 57 Lalique - a mere 16%, the best of the best.

This 16% is delivered at a very slow rate of distillation to maximize the flavour for distinctively rich, fruity, viscous character.

The 57 is sure to become a coveted collectors' item, just like its predecessors the Six Pillars series and 50 year old Macallan.
