'One of the UK's finest-ever private collections of fine wines' is up for sale

One national newspaper has billed it as "one of the finest private collections of wines ever seen in the United Kingdom," with its total sales set to exceed £2m.

Farr Vintners' auction began yesterday (October 18) and will continue all week, boasting some of the finest Bordeaux available on the collectors' markets.

Among the lots are two cases of 1990 Château Pétrus which are auctioning with a reserve price of £34,000 each.

Appearing alongside it is the 1961 Latour, among the elite of fine wines to have been awarded the full 100-points score by leading critic Robert Parker. The Latour is the auction's most expensive case at £40,000.

sale's highlights (the bottles pictured aren't featured in the sale)

Described by Farr Vintners as 'one of the finest collections of wine he has ever seen', according to UK newspaper the Guardian, the selection's quality and value is matched only by the mystery surrounding it.

A number of attempts have been made by the media to identify the collection's anonymous seller, so far without success. It is thought that he is British, in his 50s and based in London.

Collectors are so eager to acquire bottles from the collection that they have reportedly submitted sealed bids for the 291 lots. Watch this space for more news on the sale.
