Harry Houdini leg irons make $4,074 in London sale

A pair of Lilly leg irons used by Harry Houdini (1874-1926) in his stage act has sold for ?2,500 ($4,074) at Dreweatts and Bloomsbury's December 12 sale in London.

The leg irons were used onstage by the famous escape artist

The irons were among a series of items left by the escapologist to his friend and fellow magician Joseph Dunninger.

A set of hand-forged handcuffs made ?2,300 ($3,748).

They are modified with a quick-release - an unusual feature as Houdini rarely modified his equipment - making it likely they were used in more high-risk escapes such as the Chinese Water Torture spectacle.

We have this photograph signed by Houdini for sale.
