Halle Berry auction cancelled after film star threatens legal action

Montreal Auction House has cancelled its scheduled sale of actress Halle Berry's belongings, which was set to include nail clippers, a hairbrush, a zebra skin rug and an antique sofa, because the actress never actually owned them.

stars, is reported to have sent a
cease-and-desist letter

The Canadian auction house has published a statement on its website declaring that none of the objects have any association with Berry.

"No items were used by her, nor were any items provided by her or any agent of hers for the auction.

"We apologize to her, and to the public, for the error. All goods were and are the property of [Berry's ex-partner] Mr Gabriel Aubry only."

Model Aubry's belongings (with the attribution to Berry removed from stock descriptions) will now cross the block on July 21 - a delay Montreal Auction House attributes to "legal reasons".

The James Bond star's attorney is reported to have sent a cease-and-desist letter to bosses at The Montreal Auction House, informing them that Berry had never owned or used any of the 400 items destined for the auction block.

The sale underlines the importance of buying from a reputable dealer.
