Sound of Music costumes to auction for $1.2m with Profiles in History

A selection of costumes worn by Julie Andrews and the Von Trapp children in The Sound of Music (1965) will auction at Profiles in History in Hollywood on July 28.

Andrews' Do-Re-Mi dress. Another dress worn by Andrews in The Sound of Music sold for $38,400 at Julien's in 2012

The huge collection is valued at $800,000-1.2m in what looks to be one of the most anticipated movie memorabilia sales of the year. Sadly, the blue dress that Andrews wears in promotional materials for the film is not included.

However, the collection does contain the dress that she wore when singing the classic "Do-Re-Mi" to the Von Trapp children, and the yellow wool skirt and blouse from her honeymoon return, with a purple wool cape that was worn during the escape and final sequence.

Also included is a set of all seven Von Trapp children school uniforms, the jacket worn by Duane Chase as Kurt in the So Long, Farewell sequence, Angela Cartwright's Brigitta costume from the Do-Re-Mi montage and her dress from the wedding scene, as well as three costumes worn by Charmian Carr as Leisl.

A four-page typewritten story of the Von Trapp family, which has been signed by the real-life Maria and explains more about the family and their eventual escape from Third Reich-controlled Austria is also present.

"Without question, this is the most comprehensive collection of signature costumes from The Sound of Music any institution or collector could ever hope to obtain," reads the lot description.

We are currently offering Julie Andrews' autograph for sale.

The cane was given to a Chaplin historian by the man himself - provenance doesn't come much better than that

Also starring is the "Tramp" cane used by Charlie Chaplin in 1936's Modern Times, which comes with fantastic provenance, having been gifted to French journalist and Chaplin historian Maurice Bessey by the man himself. It is expected to sell for $100,000-150,000.

Paul Fraser Collectibles has a fantastic selection of movie star signed photographs, including this fantastic example of Charlie Chaplin as The Tramp.
