£50k Lucien Freud and Paula Rego prints to sell in London

Bloomsbury Auctions are holding a major sale of lithographs in London next month.

The 484 lot auction offers an extensive selection of prints (17) from Portuguese artist Paula Rego. Rego's prints emphasise the dark side of human nature and often draw inspiration from literature. These works, all from the 2001-2002 Jane Eyre series are no exception.

The works by Matisse are led by a lithograph of a reposing model printed on chine volant paper. Just 85 were printed, and this is in very good condition. It is listed at £7,000-9,000.

The two key works by Picasso present are Femme au Fauteuil II (Dora Maar) - and etching signed in pencil - and Jeunesse, which is one of 50 large lithographs of this design. Both are in good condition, though the latter has repaired tears. They are thought to be worth £15,000-20,000 and £20,000-30,000 respectively.
